National Nutrition Week is being celebrated from 1st to 7th September, 2014 and theme for this year is:
The basic objective is to intensify awareness generation on the importance of nutrition for health which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development.
Nutrition is an issue of survival, health and development for current and future generations.
Child born underweight have impaired immune function and increased risk of diseases such as diabetes and heart diseases later in life. Malnourished children tend to have lower IQ and I'm pared cognitive ability, thus affecting their school performance and then productivity in their later life.
During the week, issues such as appropriate diet to be taken during adolescent, pregnancy, lactation, infancy and young childhood would be discussed and awareness to be created amongst the people. He said that nutrition was a key to survival, health and development an individual and mainly constitutes the foundation of over all personality development.
